Biomedical student Labeeba Khan explains how she came to study at Essex via Clearing.

What was your experience like in Clearing?

I did find the whole experience very stressful as I was not sure where I wanted to go. Some university Clearing teams just seemed to keep me on hold for ages, whereas the person I spoke to at Essex was really helpful. When I got my offer from Essex I was so relieved as it was where I decided I really wanted to go.

Why did you choose Essex?

When I was looking at different universities my auntie who lives in Colchester suggested I look at Essex as it had a good reputation for research and she knew someone who had studied biomed there and was now on a fully-funded PhD scholarship. It looked like it was good for student prospects.

What are the best things for you about choosing Essex?

I loved the feeling of being at a campus and having everything I needed around me. When I joined the Asian Society as social secretary I made so many friends. I really have made friends for life at Essex.

What would your advice be to someone in Clearing this year?
It can be a really stressful time but don’t panic, stay calm and have a piece of paper with all the information and numbers that you need close by the phone!
