Graduating 2016: Victoria Herrera Mercader
Victoria Herrera Mercader came to Essex as an exchange student and loved it so much she decided to come back for her MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling.
Victoria Herrera Mercarder
She was inspired in choosing her Essex course by its possibilities for bringing people together: “Translators and interpreters have been for centuries the facilitators of communication between humans, cultures and nations. Subtitling is a medium to break linguistic barriers, but also as the solution for those with hearing difficulties.”
During her degree Victoria worked with fellow students to translate and subtitle a Spanish film, Aquí Londres, made about the University in the 1960s. She said: “Aquí Londres has so much cultural and historical value in a few minutes that it was a must to make it available for the whole community and the family of Essex.”
She is now working as an Assistant Bid Manager at Translate Plus.
The doors to Graduation 2016 open on 12 July. 4,691 students will graduate, bringing the number of Essex graduates, since 1964, to more than 93,000.
Each and every one of our 2016 graduates has had a life-changing experience. They have risen to the challenge of developing a research mindset, they have been involved in clubs, societies and volunteering, and they have grasped opportunities.
