In or Out? Our EU Referendum debate can help you decide

Former Foreign Secretary Rt Hon Lord Owen and Minister of State for Skills Nick Boles MP will be among the panellists as the University hosts a Question Time-style debate on the EU Referendum.

The event takes place at the University’s Colchester Campus on Thursday 9 June, starting at 7pm. Members of the local community, staff and students are invited to attend to help them make one of the most crucial voting decisions of their lifetime.

The debate will be chaired by Professor Heather Laurie from the University’s world-leading Institute for Social and Economic Research, who will become the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) in August. Speakers are:

Nick Boles MP, Minister of State for Skills (Remain)
Kate Godfrey, national engagement lead for the Stronger In campaign (Remain)
Dr Gerard Lyons, economist and former adviser to Boris Johnson (Leave)
Rt Hon Lord Owen, co-founder of the Social Democratic Party and former Foreign Secretary (Leave).

Professor Laurie said: “We’re expecting a lively debate covering political and economic issues. For the many voters who have yet to make up their minds, this is an opportunity to hear views and ask questions of remain and leave campaigners.”

The big decision: in or out? takes place in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall at the University of Essex’s Colchester Campus, on Thursday 9 June. Drinks reception from 6.15pm, debate starts at 7pm. Book a free place via Eventbrite
