Undergraduate fees for EU and International students
We'll assess your fee status when you apply to Essex. If you are successful in gaining an offer, your fee status will be confirmed in your offer letter.
Tuition fees for courses starting in 2021-22
Following the UK's decision to withdraw from the European Union, the Government has confirmed that EU students starting in 2021-22 will not be eligible for UK government funding.
From academic year 2021-22, EU students will be charged fees at the International student rate as outlined below.
Our 2021-22 fees for new EU and International students are listed below. Our courses are sorted into Fee Bands by department/school.

Annual fee changes
For students commencing their studies at the University of Essex in the 2021-22 academic year, fees will increase for each academic year of study. For full-time undergraduate students with an international fee status (including EU students) your programme of study will increase by 5% in 2021-22. This is subject to review for each subsequent academic year.
Our fees enable us to provide a high quality educational experience, to invest in teaching, services and facilities, and to increase our investment in widening participation, access and student opportunity. We publish information on how we use your fees.
Private loans
The best option when financing your studies is a government-funded student loan, but if that isn’t enough to cover all your expenses, or you’re not eligible for government support, Future Finance offer loans to UK, EU and international students with a UK domiciled address.
They offer amounts from £2,000 - £40,000 to cover both tuition and living costs.
US Direct loans
If you're from the United States, you may be eligible for a federal direct loan from the US Department of Education.
