Syrian Refugee Scholarship
2017-18 entry
If you are a Syrian national with refugee status you may be eligible for a scholarship worth £10,000. To support students affected by the war and political unrest in Syria we are offering three scholarships for 2017-18 entry, two for postgraduates and one for undergraduate students. These awards support our core values of membership, the celebration of equality and diversity and our commitment to challenging injustice. This award is available for your first year of study only.
Eligibility
You must meet all of the following conditions:
- Be a national of Syria
- Have been granted refugee status in the UK by the end of February 2017
- Be fully self-funding your studies (including through student loans)
- Have applied for a full-time taught masters, undergraduate or foundation degree course at the University of Essex (Colchester campus) starting in October 2017-18
- Provide evidence that you were living in the Borough of Colchester in February 2017
Students who aren't eligible
You are not eligible for this award, even if you meet the criteria above, if you:
- are funded by the NHS
- defer your entry
- are studying at an Essex campus other than Colchester
- are undertaking a Graduate or Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate, further exchange study, modern language modules, credit accumulation study or professional development modules

- Complete our application form (.docx) and return it by 25 July 2017.
After you apply
Your application will be reviewed by the selection panel and you'll be notified if you're successful by early August 2017 by our funding team.
