Your Degree certificate and Award

To access the correct information about your award documents, please select your current student status from the menu below.

  • Undergraduate students who registered at the University for the first time on or after 1 September 2014

Undergraduate students who registered as a student for the first time ON or AFTER September 2014 receive a degree certificate at Graduation. Your academic transcript is provided through the Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) and is accessed online. If you require a printed transcript, please contact the Graduation Office.

If you have not yet registered for the HEAR please ensure that you check your university email account and follow the links in the activation email from Gradintelligence.

If you finish your studies in June

Your degree certificate will be ready to collect from the Certificate Desk on Square 5 at Colchester Campus after your ceremony has taken place on the day of your Graduation. Your certificate will not be available before Graduation even if you decide not to attend.

If you finish your studies at any other time or you don't attend Graduation

We will email you to ask you how you want to receive your certificate. (If you finish your studies in June and don't attend Graduation, we will email you the week after Graduation). The email will be sent to the external email address that you have recorded on MyEssex so please check that you have entered an up to date address before you leave.

    Receiving your documents

You will need to reply to the email to let us know whether you want to:

    • collect your certificate in person from the Silberrad Student Centre - Level 1 (ID will be required)
    • arrange for someone to collect your certificate for you from the Silberrad Student Centre - Level 1 (ID will be required)
    • have your certificate posted to either the address on your student record or to a different address.

Documents are sent by standard post and cannot be tracked unless you arrange for the documents to be collected by courier. Please email the Graduation Office before you arrange a courier to collect your documents so we can arrange for a member of staff to be available to take your documents to the collection point. Alternatively, you can request information form the Graduation Office on using Royal Mail’s Track and Signed service.

    If you:

    • don't tell us that your home address has changed and your certificate is posted to an old address or
