Students Staff

Impact of European Union referendum vote

We will continue to pursue our mission of excellence in education and research within this new context. We remain committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming of students and staff from all countries - and a university where you can find the world in one place.

The UK’s decision to leave the EU will take some time to put into effect and we will be working to ensure that we are responding to developments as they unfold over the coming weeks and months. I would like to reassure current and prospective staff and students from the EU that your immigration status has not changed at this time. Our study abroad offer and participation in EU programmes such as Horizon 2020 and Erasmus also remain unchanged.

This page is designed to answer the questions you may have and we will keep it updated as further information emerges.

Anthony Forster

There will be no immediate change in any of the current immigration systems. As details of any future changes become clearer, we will keep you fully informed.

The briefings below have been prepared by lawyer Alex Russell, Principal Associate at Mills & Reeve, specialists in immigration and employment matters with experience in advising higher education institutions.

Research projects

We will continue to pursue our mission of excellence in education and research within this new context.

Current EU-funded projects will continue as planned. The current research programme cycle will end on 31 December 2020. We expect UK universities to continue to be able to access EU programmes on the same basis until then. We will work with the appropriate agencies to ensure further information is available as appropriate.
