Our courses give you research method skills and with rare first-hand access to national research data and resources in our Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) and UK Data Archive, you can analyse real data.

Our campus is internationally diverse. You'll be part of a community of research students from all over the world. Our resource centre supports you in your studies

World-leading research

We are ranked among the top 50 departments on the planet according to the QS World University Rankings (2017), and top 10 in the UK for research quality (REF 2014) with more than three-quarters of our research rated 'world leading' or ' internationally excellent'. We're ranked in the top 10 in the UK.

Over the years our research has informed an array of issues that impact our society. From studying fatherless families in the 1970s (a report the authorities wanted to block) to considering 21st century issues around lesbian motherhood, our research has never shied away from controversy.
