Faculty of Science and Health

Working to improve society

Scientists across our vibrant Faculty are collaborating in research and exploring innovative ways of working to improve society.

The Faculty of Science and Health brings together six academic departments and schools that make diverse contributions to the University’s strategic mission as a globally competitive, research-intensive and student-focused institution.

With research specialisms and impact in health, life sciences, psychology, artificial intelligence, robotics, mathematics and Big Data, our strategy is to ensure that our research and education activities are mapped onto national and international research priorities. This is reflected in the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), in which three of our departments were in the top 25 for research power in their fields (Times Higher Education research power measure, REF 2021).

Many of our staff have strong links to relevant industries and organisations, from the NHS to technology companies. Many of our degrees offer placement years or a year abroad, giving you an opportunity to develop additional skills and enhance your CV with relevant work experience.

For postgraduates our schools and departments have a range of taught and research degrees. Additionally the School of Health and Social Care, and School of Sports, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, offer Continued Professional Development (CPD) courses which can support your career in health or social work.

British Science Week

British Science Week is a celebration of science, technology and engineering, run by the British Science Association. The theme for 2024 is ‘Time’, which is key to many discoveries in science, technology and engineering. To celebrate British Science Week, we will be running several activities from 8-17 March for teachers and students to explore Time in science.
