Invitation to Research Networking Event: Migration, Identity, Resilience

we are pleased to invite you to a university wide research networking event on Tuesday the 26 September 2017, from 1-3pm, hosted by the Executive Dean of Humanities.

The event will bring together researchers from across the University to give very short introductions to their research on the themes of Migration, Identity, Resilience. Presentations will take a 2 x 2 format (maximum of 2 slides; 2 minutes), and will be followed an opportunity to network with colleagues, learn more about the range of exciting work happening across the University, and to meet potential future collaborators. Drinks and canapés will be provided.

To participate, please send the title of your presentation together with 2 images/slides (in powerpoint slides) Kai Yin Low at by Monday the 4th September 2017.

Wellcome Trust Visit 26 October 2017

Three members of the Wellcome Trust (WT) grant funding team visited the University on 26 October 2017. The day started with a round table discussion chaired by our acting PVC for research Professor Christine Raines in which we showcased the University’s biosocial and other health and interdisciplinary research strengths. The WT then presented the breadth of their a funding opportunities in an open session to around 30 of our academic colleagues. Dr. Tracey Loughran gave an insight into the development of one of her research projects into a WT Investigator award giving an invaluable insight into what makes a fundable project and a fundable PI. The day finished with ten 1:2:1 sessions where prospective Essex applicants could discuss project ideas with the Wellcome Trust staff.
