ESRC Impact Acceleration Account
Following the submission of a compelling business plan our university was awarded £680,000 in July 2014 by the
ESRC to deliver impact-focussed schemes over a period of 4 years.
ESRC Impact Acceleration Accounts
(IAA) have only been awarded to research organisations with an impressive track record in delivering research in the social sciences.
The IAA will allow us to react to knowledge exchange opportunities in more flexible, responsive and creative ways.
The Essex Impact Acceleration Account
Our schemes, devised in close consultation with our academics, will enable us to realise the impact of our research more rapidly and in a
manner that is commensurate with our institutional context and ambitions. Each scheme is designed to support direct and purposeful activity with
current research users and new engagement with potential research users .
“I encourage academic staff across all three of our faculties to make use of the ESRC Impact Acceleration Account. The IAA offers excellent
opportunities to develop a range of knowledge exchange activities and provides training in generating impact across a range of sectors.”

A guide to the Essex IAA can be downloaded here (Adobe PDF File - 439kb). The fund is not restricted to staff within the Faculty of Social Sciences, but is open to anyone working in an area within the remit of the ESRC.
Our IAA will be delivered in four key schemes:
The deadline for applications to the Impact Fund is Friday 16th February.
Active Engagement Scheme
Up to £2000 to fund industry engagement events, in various formats, to assist in the creation of new partnerships and promotion of research
to new networks and sectors.
The Impact Fund
To ensure that we foster and capture the widest range of impact opportunities and follow-on activities generated by our academics and by
users of our research, up £15,000 will be available to projects designed by academics who wish to create new, productive collaborations with
external organisations built on their research outputs .
