Admissions Policies

The policies set out the responsibilities of the University, and of applicants, and how and why the University manages admissions and marketing processes, with a view to ensuring that all applications are considered in a fair, consistent and transparent way. Policies are updated on an annual basis, so that they reflect changes to admissions processes. Our admissions policies are publically available through the Admissions team's web pages along with further information about applying to study at Essex:

Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning (AP(E)L)

If you have previously completed study at another institution, you may be able to transfer the credits you gained for those modules onto your University of Essex Online degree course provided the content and learning outcomes are similar.

This is known as Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) and will reduce the time it will take you to complete your University of Essex Online qualification, as well as reducing the course fee you will be required to pay.

If you have substantial experience, typically in the workplace, you may be able to apply for formal recognition of this professional experience to be transferred into credits for Essex modules.

This is know as Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) and will reduce the time it will take you to complete your University of Essex Online qualification, as well as reducing the course fee you will be required to pay.

You can find out more on the Admissions website, or you can ask our Admissions Team about module exemptions for previous study by calling 0800 0527 526 or email enquiries@online.essex.ac.uk
