Student Staff Liaison Committee

The Student Staff Liaison Committee meets once a term and consists of a selection of academic members of staff and student representatives from all Essex Pathways Department programmes. The committee acts as a forum for students to express their opinions about modules, to suggest improvements, and to make recommendations which could help the Department enhance student experience.

Meeting minutes

We hope that your time at the University of Essex and in the Essex Pathways Department will be happy and rewarding. However, there may be times when you feel in need of particular support or advice, or simply have a query on academic or non-academic matters. We value student support very highly in the Department and provide a strong and integrated support network.

Personal tutors

Personal Tutors are assigned to all students studying on the International Foundation Programme, Year 0, International Year One, Graduate Diploma, Essex English Language Programme and Pre-sessional programmes of 10-weeks and over. Personal Tutors can offer advice and support on most academic, social or personal issues and are able to guide students towards other support within the University where necessary.

Students will be expected to meet with their personal tutors at least twice a term but they are able to arrange further meetings when required. The Senior Tutor, Dr Anyarath Kitwiwattanachai, heads up the personal tutor team and is also the Personal Tutor for all under 18 students.

Student Services Hub

Your Student Services Hub can offer advice on funding, debt, welfare issues and employment and visa issues for International Students. It also includes the disability team for information and advice on academic support for those with a disability; and provides access to professional counsellors through the Counselling Service.

The Students' Union Advice Centre gives advice on such matters as money management, housing contracts and problems, legal issues and visa renewals.
