School visits by our Students' Union

vTeam is a student-led volunteering team here at Essex. Our students have a lot of fantastic ideas that they want to share with the world and some of these ideas have been turned into some great projects that we offer to local schools.

How it works

A group of volunteers (usually up to eight) come to your school, once a week and deliver a programme of hour-long sessions based around a subject or interest. You can offer these as an after school club or as part of a school day. We have a very wide range of projects available and they can run for as many sessions as you need.

Projects available

  • Allotment

Best to run in Autumn Term. Our volunteers will teach your students about different plants, how to grow and look after them and they will also focus on importance of balanced healthy eating.

  • Art club

Paint, make, create. Our projects are inventive and your students will never get bored. Themed lessons and lots of hands on activities!

  • Coding club

We can teach your students how to code. Any level of knowledge is welcome; we have some very talented IT geeks!

  • Einstein

Science with a bang. We offer a wide range of experiments and it's always fun for everyone.

  • Global voices

Being one of the most international universities in the country, we have students from different parts of the world. They are eager to come in and teach basics of their language and share their culture with you.

  • Money mind

Our volunteers can teach your students about money, savings, banks and where money comes from.

  • Music club

1-2-1 tuition for your students by our students in a range of instruments.

  • Numbers

Volunteers play maths-related games and explain basics of maths or push gifted and talented students to think more.

  • Origami

Paper sculptures with a bit of history! Suitable for different ages and abilities no glue or scissors allowed!

  • Photography club

Our enthusiastic photographers teach students about different cameras, exposures and angles. Pimp your Instagram!

  • Politics

Our volunteers explain the importance of voting and differences between different political parties, coalitions and how to campaign.

  • Small world

Aimed at a younger audience - never ending tales and storytelling with props, some sessions are held outside, but all sessions are fun!

  • Street law

Basic rights from our law volunteers coupled with courtroom role plays and more!

  • Teaching assistants

Perfect for secondary schools with large classes. Volunteers with passion for teaching will come and assist you during the lesson and help students who need support.

  • Time travellers

History with a twist. Facts vs fiction, vikings, vampires, wizards, explorers, pirates and many more!
