The Big Bang @ the University of Essex

What is the Big Bang?

The national Big Bang programme is the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for young people in the UK. It was established by Engineering UK (EUK) in 2009.

We have delivered The Big Bang @ The University of Essex since 2013, hosting schools from across Essex, Suffolk and East London.

What does the day involve?

The Big Bang @ Essex is a one-day event for Year 9 students, who visit a range of workshops, our interactive STEM Marketplace and our headline show throughout the day.

The Big Bang @ Essex 2019 will centre around the crucial theme of ‘Preserve our Planet’. There’s never been a more pressing time to conserve Earth’s most precious resources, and throughout the day, your students will learn the vital roles that science, technology, engineering and maths can all play in saving our world for the future.

This year’s headline show will be provided by Ian B Dunne, a fantastic science communicator who presents intriguing concepts in brilliant ways.

Ian’s stand-up, one-man science shows are entertaining… Hold on, that’s not the right word. They are more than that: engaging, amusing and inspiring. He has toured the country to bring the wonder of science to all, and is now set to do the same at The Big Bang @ Essex 2019.

On top of that, your students can look forward to two interactive workshops of your choice, as well as a tour of our sensational marketplace. With exhibitors including BT, EDF Energy, Essex Wildlife Trust, the RAF and The Detective Project, it’s sure to be one to remember.

When does it happen?

The Big Bang @ Essex 2019 will take place on Tuesday 26 March 2019, between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
