TH142 examines the process of theatre-making. It looks at the way theatrical ideas are developed from their initial stimulus to their realisation during performance and provides insight into the technical expertise required for achieving this. The course is in two parts.
Preparing the Ground
Introduction to Technical Theatre:
One half of the module will take the form of a series of technical theatre workshops, where students explore the basics of lighting, sound and stage management.
An introduction to Commedia dell' Arte
In the second part of the module students will develop work related to Commedia Dell' Arte, its history, characters and staging. Through research and workshops, students will devise a solo performance, using the style of Commedia. The module will explore technique, character and mask, as well as devising skills and improvisation, exploring the relationship between the actor, the audience and the art of playfulness.
