This independent study module allows students to undertake a detailed investigation into a research methodology and associated methods in preparation for their final research activity.
The aims of this module are:
- To enable students to develop a critical understanding of an identified research methodology and associated methods suitable for use in relation to their chosen research topic.
- To prepare students to conceptualise, design and implement a project for the generation of new knowledge, applications or understanding at the forefront of their discipline.
By the end of this module, students will be expwected to be able to:
- Use informed judgement, select and justify a research perspective, methodology and associated methods for a chosen research topic.
- Demonstrate detailed understanding to identify and discuss some key philosophical/theoretical assumptions that inform the chosen approach and methods.
- Critically consider how the chosen approach will support the creation of new knowledge and evidence and the implications of this in relation to their chosen research topic.
