This module explores the lived experience of the self and others through the contexts in which they live.
Students will examine and develop their understanding of being a physiotherapist in contemporary and evolving UK practice, considering their own development as a student healthcare professional. Students will apply, evaluate and analyse approaches to developing themselves as professionals and others such as service users and peers in a variety of contexts.
The aims of this module are:
- To explore the lived experience of the self and others through the contexts in which they live.
- To examine and develop students’ understanding of being a physiotherapist in contemporary and evolving UK practice, considering their own development as a student healthcare
- To enable students to apply, evaluate and analyse approaches to developing themselves as professionals.
- To enable students to apply, evaluate and analyse approaches to developing others, such as service users and peers, in a variety of contexts.
By the end of the module, students will be expected to:
- Critically discuss factors influencing your own frame of reference as a healthcare student
- Demonstrate and critically discuss the expectations and requirements of you as a healthcare student
- Investigate core theories, principles, and concepts for the role of CPD in your journey as a health care professional
- Synthesise factors influencing the frames of reference of others who you will collaborate with as a healthcare student
- Identify and critically evaluate opportunities to develop relationships whilst respecting others’ frames of reference

Overview: A mixture of lectures, seminars and independent learning will be used to deliver this module.
Lectures: Lectures will be used to introduce key concepts to students.
Independent and Online: There is an expectation that students undertake a significant amount of independent learning. Directed content will be available weekly via Moodle. This may include teaching materials, online discussion forums, quizzes etc. Journals and e-books are available through the university library.
Workshops: Workshop sessions will be used for the facilitation of small group discussions and activities, to explore key module themes in greater depth and to consolidate knowledge.
Tutorials: Group work may be utilised to facilitate learning. Students are advised to take tutorial advice from the module lead in relation to module content and assessment. For more general issues students are encouraged to discuss issues with their allocated personal tutor.

- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
