Applied psychology focuses on the professional practice associated with psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and how it dictates and influences our behaviour. It is about understanding what makes people tick and how this understanding can help us address many of the problems and issues in society today. This module will survey the various applied psychology disciplines and their underlying concepts.
The aims of this module are:
- To provide a survey of a range of applied psychology fields and their associated concepts. These fields include forensic, health, occupational, clinical and educational psychology.
- To develop students' understanding of the range of approaches available for applying psychology.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Understand and evaluate the contributions of several main areas of applied psychology.
- Describe and evaluate some of the research and theories that support these applied areas.
- Evaluate how psychological theory is used to solve practical problems encountered by different types of applied psychologists.

- Weekly 2-hour lectures.
