Module description

This compulsory module is taught by staff from the Employability and Careers Centre together with input from external employers and peers. The module has been designed to guide you in the development of employability skills and capabilities that you need to compete successfully in the increasingly competitive 21st century graduate labour market.

Level of module

Upon successful completion of the module students will be awarded 15 credits at NQF Level 4 (first year of under-graduate study). There are no pre-requisites in respect of prior knowledge or experience.

Aims

The aim of the module is to increase the likelihood that you will be able to secure your chosen career. By interacting with a range of perspectives and concepts, as well as considering your own practical experience, you will be able to reflect on and refine your own thinking about employability. You will develop narrative capital and a greater sense of agency and be better placed to relate your current self-identity to possible future selves. Furthermore, where relevant, you will apply degree subject knowledge to employability understanding. The module will also enable you to understand the structure of the graduate labour market, to identify relevant opportunities and to practise the strategies needed to apply.
