This module covers topics in phonology, building on knowledge acquired in LG110 Sounds (or equivalent first-year modules). It discusses fundamental questions arising from the scientific study of languages' sound systems, and equips students with tools for conducting phonological analysis. Students will be provided with hands-on experience of analysing phonological data across a variety of languages.
The aim of the module is to familiarise students with foundational topics in phonological theory, and the application of theory to the understanding of sound patterns in diverse languages.
Students will be able to use the tools of modern phonological theory to analyse phenomena such as allophony, morphophonemic alternations, and syllable structure in a wide variety of languages.

- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
