Learning and teaching methods

Term 1 This term consists of a weekly 1-hour lab co-run by a lecturer and GTA. There are no tutorials for this module, but both of the lecturers and the two GTAs will hold regular office hours for further discussion/specific inquiries. There are weekly Moodle quizzes about the UG Handbook and the course booklet, which you are expected to read and digest independently. Two larger assignments will build from the skills you acquire in labs, and are focused on developing your information gathering, analytic and writing skills, important for all future modules. Term 2 This term consists of a weekly 2-hour lecture and discussion run by a lecturer and one 1-hour follow-up class, run by a GTA. Each lecture will introduce a different socio/linguistic topic. Follow-up classes are designed to clarify any questions students may have about the content of the lectures, to discuss the issues raised in the lecture in more detail, and to develop skills necessary for the coursework and exam. Revision tutorials will be offered by GTAs during Summer term prior to the exam. The exam will only cover Term 2 materials.
