LA099 is a compulsory module for all students in the department of Languages and Linguistics. This module gives students the opportunity to develop their employability skills, their awareness of their own skills and career aims, and their knowledge of the graduate job market and its requirements. It will also introduce students to the resources that the careers team in Student Development and the Department provide for their personal and career development, work placements and volunteering, and their research into the job market. The three-year module is non-credit-bearing, but obligatory for all Modern Language and Linguistics students in the Department. It is important to note that although the module carries zero credits and thus does not count toward final degree class of students, the results of this module will appear on a student's transcript.
After successful completion of this module, students will be able to
1. identify careers that are available to them with their degree
2. make informed choices about career paths based on their own skills, motivations, and
goals, and their knowledge of professions and sectors
3. develop an action plan to achieve their career goals
4. make appropriate applications to employers, effectively demonstrating their skills and
Achievements.
