This module aims to introduce students to the principles of Psychology, Sociology and Public Health so that concepts of both health and illness can be explored and the reasons behind individual health outcomes can be recognised in the context of a range of psychosocial variables.

Learning and teaching methods

Overview: The module will combine a number of different teaching approaches. Lectures will introduce key concepts and resources will be available online to help guide study. Individual tutorials, as negotiated between student and academic supervisors will further support teaching and learning. There will be some student led sessions. Lectures: By module leads and external experts Independent: General reading time has been allocated in to the module, as has time for group work Placement: The concepts learned during this module are transferable to all clinical placement settings. Online: Resources will be made available to students including journal articles, websites, film clips and discussion forums to aid understanding and consolidate learning. Tutorials: It is expected that you will meet with your personal tutor at least once during the module. Personal tutorials can be arranged with the module lead.
