Learning and teaching methods

Overview: The module runs over 14 weeks culminating in assessment via DVD and an academic reflection. Lectures: The module adopts a range of learning activities including lectures workshops, seminars, practical sessions, case-studies and tutorials. Experiential learning will form an integral part of the module, allowing students to develop their skills. During this module there will be emphasis placed on the adapting activities and environments, assistive devices and grading of a wide variety of activities. You will be expected to participate in classroom learning, experiential activities and case studies. Independent: Students will independently work on the production of the DVD. Online: Lecture notes will be available to students prior to sessions on Moodle. There will also be a forum available for students to discuss issues on Moodle Tutorials: Assessment tutorials will take place during the module Skills: Students will experience a variety of skills throughout the module and participate in a variety of groupwork.

Additional coursework information

Assessment takes the form of DVD presentation and reflective log of the learning during the process of completion of the video. The student will; A. Select an appropriate therapeutic activity relevant to a chosen client justifying the reasons for the choice. You need to demonstrate the use of the OT process, considering opportunities for the grading and adaptation of the activity to meet the changing needs of the client. You will then creatively present the client, justifying your intervention inter-pinned from a theoretical base on a 10 -12 minute DVD. (60% weighting) B. Using a relevant model of reflection, complete a reflective log of your learning of a new skill undertaken during the module - 1500 words submitted via OCS (40% weighting) Students must successfully complete both components with a pass mark of 40% for each. An aggregate mark will not be considered.

There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
