MA W40E12 Advanced Professional Theatre Practice
This module is the first learning experience for students on the MA Advanced Professional Theatre Practice and offers the opportunity to reflect on previous experience as a preparation for study and development planning.
This module aims to give students a thorough and personalised preparation forstudy at Masters level. Students undertake a supported review of their learning and experience to date, and use the outcomes of this review to determine their priorities for focus in the remainder of the module. On completion of the module, students are prepared for guided and independent study at Level 7, including specific preparation for learning in the online environment.
On completion of the module, successful students will be able to:
1. Identify the knowledge and skills from their own education, work and practice which are relevant to Masters level study.
2. Evaluate their development needs through self-critical reflection.
3. Critically reflect on how collaboration with other practitioners has shaped their own professional practice.
4. Identify theoretical perspectives on learning styles and apply them critically to their own prior experience.
5. Devise and articulate an individual learning and development plan for study at Masters level.
Skills in reflection and models of reflection
Introduction to Masters level study in professional arts practice, including reading and research methods; approaches to writing; the autonomous learner; working with supervisors and peers.
Selection of material for the portfolio.
Models of online learning.
Personal development and collaborative working.
The module is delivered through a series of structured exercises weekly (7of the 10 weeks), and supported by interactive contact with an assigned tutor twice per term. Guided reading, onlineexercises and, where appropriate, tutorials allow the student to develop an authoritative approach to understanding their own practice as learners. This includes participation in scheduled on-line student forums as a compulsory element.
