Aims:
This module addresses itself to the role of the director working with a physical theatre company. Starting from the experience of companies such as Complicité and Trestle, it examines the specific problems of company dynamics and of style inherent in overtly physical forms of theatre.
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of and practical skills in:
- Relationships between theoretical and practical challenges for directors
- Diverse rehearsal processes
- Rehearsal techniques
- Group working skills
- Guidance of acting
- Oral and visual presentation of ideas
Syllabus:
* The use of mime forms in staging
* Basic principles of complicité
* The role of the movement director in a physical theatre company
* Imaginative use of objects, stage effects and music in the process of non-verbal communication
* Jacques LeCoq approach using physical genres.
Directed autonomous learning, workshops, rehearsals, seminars, presentations and feedback sessions.
