BA W496 Acting and Community Engagement
The emphasis in this second year Acting and Community Theatre module is on developing understanding of design concepts, developing technical application of design to costume, prop and small set construction, and developing technical skill in video documentary production.
Students will be encouraged to make use of found materials and low-budget solutions suitable for small-scale touring and work in community settings.
Students will gain an understanding of the technical, health and safety issues of performance in a range of scales and settings.
To develop awareness of:
1. design as an essential element of the production process
2. practical skills involved in technical theatre
3. executing design and construction tasks for performance environments
4. video documentary processes and techniques
Students will be able to demonstrate ability to:
1. Understand the potential of a performance space
2. Research and make integrated design decisions
3. Use simple design elements to transform performers and spaces
4. Execute design and construction of costumes, head-dress and props
5. Effectively use video and audio recording and editing equipment
6. Apply documentary skill to video production
7. Work effectively as members of a production team
8. Carry out established risk assessment procedures
9. Apply problem-solving skills to technical, safeguarding and health and safety issues
