The second year of Movement training is about deepening movement vocabulary and physical potential. You will learn to expand your range of physical choices in a variety of theatrical styles. Psycho-physical movement training becomes more specific and precise and this work continues alongside spontaneous body exploration.
Alignment work is re-emphasised and applied to both acting challenges and movement improvisations. Relationship between text and movement, impulse work, as well as experience of deep listening to partners will be explored. Students will be introduced to different devising techniques.
The module is intended to develop appropriate levels of physical, emotional and imaginative agility and stamina in students. It is designed to encourage students to develop good movement practices, empowering them to look after their bodies and to sustain body alignment. By the end of the module students will have developed a working technique for physical characterisation.
To encourage students to:
1. Sustain an appropriate level of physical, emotional and imaginative fitness
2. Work the ‘technical/spontaneous body’ with precision and organicity
3. Eliminate blocks and challenges of physical weakness in the body
4. Expand movement vocabulary in relation to a range of character choices and theatrical styles
By the end of this module you will be able to demonstrate advanced awareness of and ability to put into practice in performance:
1. Class Etiquette: attending and arriving for class in a timely manner with the body and mind in a state of readiness to work. This includes dress code.
2. Ensemble: working well with peers by contributing both physical and creative ideas to group work and discussions. In collaborative work able to both lead and follow.
3. Alignment: working towards a physicality that is free of excess muscular tensions and imbalances. Centred with core stability and ease in alignment..
4. Dynamics: able to adapt and take on other forms and qualities of movement, styles, rhythms, efforts, use of space etc. Showing variety in personal qualitative range.
5. Body confidence: Brave and willing to take the space with a fully-energised presence. Confident in the use of own body.
6. Creativity: using the body as an extension of the imagination rigorously, inventively and with originality in the development of an idea.
7. Inner Life: connecting the physical to the emotional, is able to reveal own or character’s interior life through body language.
8. Physical Memory: able to repeat both choreography, set physical actions and mentally scored sequences with both precision and connection.
9. Self-assessment: understanding where personal growth is needed and demonstrating willingness to take risks in class to overcome personal blocks.
10. Integration of skills: taking personal ownership of work, demonstrating ability to integrate movement/physicality into assessments, acting and performance. Developing own intelligent movement-based process enabling creation of whatever is physically required by any director or choreographer and in any given creative process.

Learning also takes place through presentations within the class environment.
Students are expected to work on movement techniques and development in independent study and practice.
Students receive verbal or written feedback from tutors.
Students might be filmed within the classroom and then given the opportunity to study the footage alongside feedback from the tutor.
