Key module for

BA W412 Acting and Stage Combat

Module description

This year-long unit will support the other physical skill units in the course. The overall aim of the unit is to provide you with the capabilities of performing advanced physical routines. This will directly apply to unarmed stage combat, and will also relate to armed combat and personal development. You will focus on developing your ability to move in space and on using these skills in the development of specific characters.

In Term One you will focus on developing a vocabulary of gymnastic and acrobatic skills through individual and co-operative exercises, and an understanding of terminology and safety requirements of the activities undertaken. Emphasis will be put on spatial awareness, timing, balance, co-ordination, flexibility and general fitness and strength. You will be encouraged to apply self-analysis in the development and maintenance of a personal fitness programme.

In Term Two you will further develop your vocabulary of gymnastic and acrobatic skills through individual and co-operative exercises. As the course progresses you will look at combining moves into set routines. You will begin to evaluate the personal fitness programme developed in Term One. You will perform a set routine and provide a related Health and Safety document.

In Term Three you will develop an understanding of specialised terminology and safety requirements. Building on the abilities achieved in Terms One and Two, you will be asked to investigate your new skills creatively, with an increased focus on devising original work. You will devise and perform a routine and provide related health and safety documentation. You will review and adapt your personal fitness programme.
