Module description

This module is designed to help students start to develop their career and employability readiness. This will involve reflecting on employability skills developed during your studies, building important experience whilst at university, understanding the graduate job market, and learning strategies for effective career planning.

This is a compulsory module for all first-year PHAIS undergraduate students (single and joint honours). Students attend 5 timetabled sessions in the spring term and complete a number of tasks that build towards a career portfolio

Module aims

The aims of this module are:



  • To help students realise employability skills they are developing in their studies.

  • To support students in becoming aware of career-experience opportunities while at university.

  • To provide students with an understanding of the graduate labour market.

  • To support students in developing a career action plan.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:



  1. Reflect on their skills, interests, and experiences and how they develop during their degree.

  2. Have an understanding of the graduate labour market.

  3. Identify and take up opportunities for gaining experience and building their CV while at University.

  4. Start developing a career action plan.
