Module description

This module will provide students with a clear understanding of feedback, Dweck`s concept of a `growth mindset`, and how they can use these to improve their studies and career.

This module also serves as a bridge for students' final year, so that students should be able to understand the expectations of the final year and the possible careers path they can take after their studies, and how they can use summer vacations to get ahead.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:

  • To develop a comprehensive understanding of feedback and growth mindset.

  • To provide the necessary tools to undertake group work and presentations.

  • To help students to bridge to the final year and to think about their future career plans.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Develop their knowledge and understanding of how to use feedback effectively and how to reflect on previous coursework.

  2. Understand the difference between a `fixed` and `growth` mindset, and to understand how a growth mindset can help in becoming a more successful student.

  3. Prepare students to undertake career interviews and to understand feedback from the recruitment and selection process, in the context of growth mindset.

  4. Identify their own career interests and to prepare an action plan for the next 4 years.

  5. Successfully undertake group-work and to understand individuals' behaviour in groups.

  6. Learn different techniques on idea creation and to relate it to problem solving in organisations.

  7. Acquire relevant presentation skills and to be able to identify the different elements of successful presentations.

  8. Prepare for the final year, and, ultimately, to help students graduate with a good degree.
