Module description

This module provides an analysis of the key strategic developments in banking and to analyse the main aspects of risk management in modern banks.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:



  • To introduce the concept of shareholder value in banking.

  • To identify the main banking strategies to create shareholder value.

  • To provide students with an understanding of the key risks in banking.

  • To examine the most important tools to manage bank risks.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:



  1. Evaluate the main strategic developments in modern global banking and their impact on shareholder value creation.

  2. Understand the main banking risks and risk measurement techniques.

  3. Critically evaluate the application of the main risk management techniques in banking.

Learning and teaching methods

This module will be delivered via:

  • One 2-hour lecture per week.
