Module description

This module facilitates students' knowledge and understanding of critical thinking and academic skills such as searching, retrieving, appraising and reporting evidence to allow to students to begin to engage with evidence-based practice and life-long learning.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:



  • To foster students’ knowledge and understanding of critical thinking and academic skills such as searching, retrieving, appraising and reporting evidence.

  • To engage students with evidence-based practice and life-long learning.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:



  1. Identify, retrieve and make critical judgements on a range of sources of information.

  2. Communicate conclusions effectively in a well-structured manner to convey complex information and ideas.

  3. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the value in using a variety of sources of information in practice.

  4. Critically discuss the concept of evidence based practice in contemporary healthcare.
