MSC B16024 Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration)
This module develops students' holistic assessment and intervention skills for a range of patient presentations. The module will focus on the common approaches to physiotherapy led assessment and interventions, whilst highlighting the variations required when assessing different patient groups.
The aims of this module are:
- To develop holistic assessment and intervention skills for a range of patient presentations.
- To facilitate the learning of common approaches to physiotherapy led assessment and interventions, whilst highlighting the variations required when assessing different patient groups.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Critically explore the approaches and components of physiotherapy led assessment.
- Demonstrate an ability to undertake an assessment and provide interventions which are appropriate, safe, effective, holistic and adaptable.
- Communicate clearly in a well-structured manner to convey complex information and ideas, adapting the message to the requirements and level of the target audience.
- Demonstrate accurate note keeping which is congruent with legal and professional expectations.
- Undertake an analysis of patient led assessment and interventions, relating to the biopsychosocial aspects for improving patient outcomes.

- Subjective assessment; communication styles, understanding the individual's context, shared decision making
- Physical assessment; observation, posture, range of movement, strength, functional capacity, special tests
- Variations for specific patient groups
- Communication of assessment findings; Consent, SOAP, POMR, Note writing, Digitalisation
- Common sense model and patient education
- Manual therapy, education, exercise and use of adjuncts
- Application of NHS Values
This module will be delivered via a mixture of lectures, seminars, practicals and independent will be used to deliver this module.

- 70-minute mock Viva in week 32.
