This module will develop students' skill to perform a thorough needs analysis of sports, individuals, and/or teams, examine psychological strategies that are used to enhance performance, and examine how to develop interventions based on the current research literature. The module will also explore the role of technology to enhance the delivery of sport psychology services. The module builds on Year 1 and 2 Sport and Performance Psychology modules and will focus on the application of scientific principles to enhance athletic performance.
The aim of this module is:
- To develop students’ ability to design evidence-based psychological interventions with athletes.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Discuss specific theories and models within sport psychology.
- Apply a range of needs analysis techniques to collect psychological data from individuals and teams.
- Evaluate evidence to determine the strengths and weaknesses of individuals and teams.
- Critically evaluate the merits of various psychological strategies.
- Design interventions to improve athletic performance.
- Utilise technology to enhance the delivery of sport psychology services.
- Coherently present ideas in written and oral form.
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a team to produce scientific resources.
