Sport psychology can assist understanding and practice associated with the core aspects of sport coaching such as: managing relationships, establishing effective communication, cultivating effective leadership, developing motivation, creating positive climates and assisting participants in the development of important personal qualities and mental skills which support both participant well-being and performance achievement objectives.
The module aims to examine the personal, interpersonal and intrapersonal aspects of sports coaching through the discipline of Sport Psychology.
On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:
• Describe contemporary themes and activities within sport psychology
• Discuss the importance of understanding participant motivation
• Discuss the importance of understanding coach motivation and how this influences coaching behaviours, participant experiences and other outcomes.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with embedding and applying sport psychology in sports coaching
• Describe the ways in which a coach can support athletic and personal development of
