This module will give students knowledge and understanding of the academic skills required for life-long learning in physiotherapy. This will include critical thinking and academic skills such as searching, retrieving, appraising and reporting evidence to allow to students to begin to engage with evidence-based practice.
The aims of this module are:
- To introduce students to evidence-based practice and life-long learning in physiotherapy
- To gain knowledge and understanding of critical thinking
- To develop academic skills such as searching, retrieving, appraising and reporting evidence
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Identify, retrieve and make judgements on sources of information
- Communicate conclusions effectively
- Demonstrate an understanding of the value in using a variety of sources of information in practice
- Discuss the concept of evidence-based practice in healthcare
Indicative Syllabus:
- Academic skills and referencing
- Measurement in physiotherapy (quantitative research methods)
- Critical thinking and clinical reasoning
- Hierarchy of evidence and the value of all sources of information
- Literature searching
- Evidence based practice
- Appreciation of uncertainty
- Qualitative research methods
