There are three elements to this module, compulsory for single-honours students: preparation for your final year multimedia project (LT314); preparation of your National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) exams and e-portfolio; and news days. Part of your preparation for the NCTJ exams will involve a Law and Ethics refresher late in the Autumn term.
During your final year you will undertake a multimedia project designed to demonstrate your understanding of the theory and practice of reporting, your ability to work across a number of broadcast platforms, and your ability to identify, research and deliver an original story. During this module you will carry out the essential scoping and preparatory work necessary for you to proceed with the project.
You will receive at least two hours of voice coaching. This will take place in the Spring and Summer terms and will be scheduled separately. Your final five days of organised work experience also take place within this module. Dates may include the summer break between Year 2 and Year 3.
The aim of this module is:
- To prepare you fully to start work on your project, planning and mapping it, and doing the essential background work.
By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:
- Learned how to scope and produce a clear project plan.
- Drawn up the detail of your project, with timetable and milestones, and details of the research and other information-gathering you will be conducting.
- Tested and adapted your proposal by presenting and discussing ideas, project challenges and goals in open session with peers and tutors.
By the end of the spring term, you will have made substantial progress on your NCTJ e-portfolio which is submitted in the summer.
