This module is intended for teachers who are looking into taking on leadership roles and responsibilities in their current jobs or future careers. The module focuses on how effective leadership and management could be practised and bring change in education. Students will become familiar with key concepts and practices in this area such as reflective practice, practice-based inquiry, decision making, building communities of practice with other teachers and learners, educational policy, emotional intelligence, and embracing inclusion and diversity. Special attention will also be paid to specific challenges faced by English/foreign language education institutions and how such challenges can be addressed by educational managers in collaboration with teachers.
• To introduce students to the concepts of leadership and management within educational settings.
• To familiarise students with educational leadership frameworks that they could apply to their own contexts.
• To raise students’ awareness of key practices associated with leadership and management in education such as decision making, reflective and practice-based inquiry, and educational policy.
• To help students appreciate the importance of effective leadership and management in bringing change in education.
• To understand and evaluate specific challenges in English/foreign language teaching institutions and how these could be managed effectively.
By the end of the module:
A. Students will have become familiar with the concepts of leadership and management, as well as key practices associated with them.
B. Students will have become familiar with educational leadership frameworks to apply to their own practice.
C. Students will have appreciated the role of effective leadership and management in initiating change in education.
D. Students will have reflected on how challenges in English/foreign language teaching institutions could be addressed through effective leadership and management.

10 x 2-hour sessions, combining input from the lecturers and in-class discussions and group work. Materials will be made available on Moodle ahead of each week's lecture.
