MA Q91T12 Advanced Interpreting with Specialised Translation (Chinese-English),
MA T1Q912 Conference Interpreting and Translation (Chinese-English)
This module is for advanced level of interpreters.
Students of this module should have had foundational trainings and/or gained practical experiences of all interpreting modes including sight translation, consecutive interpreting, bilateral interpreting and simultaneous interpreting.
In this module, every class is a mock conference and has a clearly defined scenario and context. Students will be required to perform Simultaneous Interpreting (SI) in the booths of the interpreting lab. At the beginning of the term, split attention skill will be reinforced in order to cope with more challenging SI tasks.
The module recognizes the paramount importance of knowledge schemas, terminologies and personal experiences, therefore students will be exposed to technical subjects and may be taken to the selected off-campus venues to practice interpreting in real working environments.
At the end of the module, students will be assessed on sight translation and simultaneous interpreting (C-E and E-C).
This module aims to further develop the simultaneous interpreting skills and strategies to improve the level toward a professional simultaneous interpreter.
Develop advanced level of simultaneous interpreting strategies and techniques
Develop advanced level of consecutive interpreting strategies and techniques at bilateral settings
Understanding differences between written and spoken discourse; analysing speeches from phonological and semantic perspectives;

The above list is indicative of the essential reading for the course.
