BA R9R3 European Studies with Italian
LA621-22 Intensive Initial Italian has been designed for those students who have none or little knowledge of Italian. The aim of the module is to enable you attain a level of Italian equivalent to an A level. It is the compulsory path for those students with no Knowledge of Italian who intend to take the study of the language to a Proficiency or Mastery level in their final year. This module can also be taken as an outside option (double module), by completing it, with a summer course in Italy students will reach an intermediate exit level B1 (equivalent to LA630); without attending the course in Italy your exit level will be elementary A2 (equivalent to LA620);

In our classes, we use an inductive approach, complemented by a variety of activities, which aim to facilitate the learning of the Italian language structures and functions. You are expected to take an active part in classes both individually and in group activities

- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
