The course is divided into topics related to Hispanic culture, presenting genuine opportunities for students to expand their vocabulary and cultural knowledge in an engaging and meaningful manner. Through authentic print and audiovisual materials, students will be exposed to different accents and registers. Previous grammatical knowledge will be reinforced and new structures will be introduced. All four skills will be targeted: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

The aims of the module are to further develop and refine communication skills in Spanish, working towards comprehension and production of contemporary spoken and written Spanish.
The module also aims to give students the opportunity to practise and expand transferable skills such as intercultural awareness and language mediation skills, communication and presentation skills, independent learning, creative and analytical thinking, reflective skills, problem-solving, team-working, disciplined time-management, research skills and use of electronic media.
By the end of the module, students should:
• Be able to describe people, places and events
• Be able to talk about present, past and future events
• Be able to identify and use the register and lexis most appropriate for a given situation
• Be able to understand and write a variety of text types
• Be able to understand a variety of accents
• Be able to confidently maintain a conversation on cultural and general topics.
• Demonstrate command of transferable skills such as intercultural awareness and language mediation skills, communication and presentation skills, independent learning, creative and analytical thinking, reflective skills, problem-solving, team-working, disciplined time-management, research skills and use of electronic media.

The module comprises three classes a week in the Autumn and Spring Terms. In addition, there will be revision classes in Week 30 in the Summer term.
