Module description

To provide evidence that students have successful completed all skills identified in the portfolio with supportive evidence. To show the importance of reflection in the workplace to demonstrate continuous personal and professional development.

Module aims

To place the development of the role of the healthcare worker in the context of a learning continuum in partnership with the workplace and Higher Education.
To provide the student with a set of skills to enable them to deliver competent health care.
To begin to reflect and use reflective practice to learn and develop personal and professional practice in the workplace.

Module learning outcomes

1.To work with a registered practitioner regularly toachieve set learning outcomes for eachskillto meet progression points at the end of term 1, 2 & 3(Skills1)

2.To undertake the prescribed skills in a competent manner (Skills 1).

3.Using a recognised reflective framework and demonstrate continuous reflection and learning of each skill to demonstrate learning and personal development (Skills 1).

4.To demonstrate and meet each formative and summative learning outcome, recording personaland professional development and use appropriate evidence (Skills1)

5.To take ownership and responsibility for own learning needs in the workplace, showing management of time, resources and seeking advice as appropriate (Skills 1).

6.To maintain portfolio record, follow succinctly and record all signatures and keep a record on work time (Timesheets)

Module information

Skills Portfolio 1 module is designed to capture and award credit to learning that takes place in the workplace. The module introduces the learner to the concept of continuous reflection on their learning and professional development to promote ownership and responsibility of learning.

This module further promotes autonomy and recognises that each workplace is different and there will be the opportunity to develop specific skills related to the students' workplace

Learning and teaching methods

This module requires the student to work with their designated supervisor to work towards these skills. Students studying for the undergraduate pathways will study this module together. *Teaching –related lectures will be delivered on key topic during modules running through the programme and linked to skills. *Learning –academic level specific sessions will explore topics during the programme.*On-Line Discussion –forums / tutorial discussion will be available for the duration of the programme. *Moodle –the VLE will contain self-directed reading and support activities. *Outcomes –module outcomes are academic level specific*Assessment –the assessment strategy involves the same tasks but the level of critical ability required for successful completion will vary dependent on academic level. Lectures: A wide range of electronic media such as PowerPoint, video clips, images and audio will be utilised. Class room, Zoom and independent and group work activities.Student led activities. Independent: There are several formative activities used within the module to promote independent learning as well as module material to direct students to key resources. Online: Social media and Virtual Learning Environments utilised, zoom, webinars, panopto. There are a range of forums, screen casts and interactive learning activities used to support learning. Tutorials:Personal and group tutorials are available throughout the module and it is expected that you meet with the module lead at least once during the module to discuss written work. It is the student's responsibility toattend group tutorials and to arrange any personal tutorials with the module lead.Resources and instructions are available on MOODLE Skills: All students will be provided with opportunities to practice skills relevant to the module.Practicalsessions will support practice and provide opportunity to reflect on practiceThere are formative activities that are included within the module to assess the acquisition of necessary skills such as essay writing, use of IT and communication skills.
