Module description

To provide evidence that students have successfully completed all skills identified in the portfolio with supportive evidence. To show the importance of reflection in the workplace to demonstrate continuous personal and professional development.

Module aims

The module aims:



  • To place the development of the role of the healthcare worker in the context of a learning continuum in partnership with the workplace and Higher Education.

  • To provide the student with a set of skills to enable them to deliver competent health care.

  • To begin to reflect and use reflective practice to learn and develop personal and professional practice in the workplace.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of this module, students will be expected to be able to:



  1. To work with a registered practitioner regularly and achieve set learning outcomes for each to meet progression points at the end of terms 1, 2 & 3(Skills 1)and 4, 5 & 6 (Skills 2).

  2. To undertake the prescribed skills in a competent manner (Skills 1 and Skills 2).

  3. Using a recognised reflective framework and demonstrating continuous reflection and learning of each skill to demonstrate learning and personal development (Skills 1).

  4. To demonstrate and meet each formative and summative learning outcome, record personal and professional development and use appropriate evidence (Skills 1)

  5. To take ownership and responsibility for own learning needs in the workplace, showing management of time, and resources and seeking advice as appropriate (Skills 1).

  6. To plan and develop a new skill in the workplace with their designated supervisor (Skills 2).

  7. To maintain portfolio record, follow succinctly and record all signatures and keep a record of work time (Timesheets).

Module information

This module is primarily operationalized in the workplace where students learn to perform and are assessed in the delivery of healthcare.


This module requires students to complete all skills and continue to maintain mandatory training relevant to their role in the workplace.


Students will encounter and work with a range of individuals in the workplace and are expected to reflect on these showing learning and development towards meeting each skill.


Students can expect to develop new and/or additional skills in their workplace which will be related to their scope of practice.


Learning and teaching methods

Overview

This module requires the student to work with their designated supervisor to work towards these skills. Students studying for the undergraduate pathways will study this module together.

Teaching–related lectures will be delivered on key topics during modules running through the programme and linked to skills.

Learning –academic level-specific sessions will explore topics during the programme.

On-Line Discussion –forums/tutorial discussions will be available for the duration of the programme.

Moodle –the VLE will contain self-directed reading and support activities.

Outcomes –module outcomes are academic level specific

Assessment –the assessment strategy involves the same tasks but the level of critical ability required for successful completion will vary dependent on the academic level.
