BSC B939 Occupational Therapy
All staff within health, social care and other practice settings have a responsibility to contribute to the governance processes in place to ensure the quality, efficiency and effectiveness within current service delivery. You will draw on previous learning and placement experiences to develop your leadership skills in relation to enhancing service delivery, within a local and regional context. The skills and learning from this module will be further developed in the next module 'Advancing Occupational Therapy Practice' where you will extend your knowledge to understand and apply national and international trends and contexts.
This module is designed to enable students to develop effective leadership skills through the identification and development of an appropriate service enhancement idea drawn from practice placement experiences. Students will extend their understanding of the considerations required to positively affect change to enhance service delivery and benefit service users.
On successful completion of this module, the [learner] will be able to:
1. Critically evaluate the evidence base that underpins practice innovation and service enhancement
2. Analyse and evaluate practice placement experiences and module content, to progress an appropriate idea that enhances practice or services
3. Justify and analyse the added value of the service enhancement idea to service user and organisation
This module runs 3 days per week in the Spring and Summer terms. You will draw upon placement experiences to identify and develop appropriate ideas for service enhancement. You will be involved with organising a poster presentation event held at the end of the module, where you will have the opportunity to share your service enhancement ideas with invited audience members.
Continuing with the developmental approach of the programme, within this module you will draw upon knowledge, understanding and experiences gained from previous learning and placement experiences, in order to further develop your understanding and involvement in maintaining the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of health, social care and other practice contexts. This module will provide opportunities for health professionals and service users to share their knowledge and experiences relating to the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of practice. The interactive nature of this module is supported by small group work, tutorials and seminars which will form the basis of the learning methods within this module. A poster presentation event will be organised for the end of the module, where you will have the opportunity to share your service enhancement ideas with invited academic interprofessional staff, external health professionals, service users and other students.
