Module Directory

This module is designed to focus specifically on the practice and skills required for occupational therapy. It will enable you to develop an understanding of the relative role, value, and impact of therapy. You will complete required online and practical mandatory training sessions to prepare for and undertake your first practice placement. This module will support you to develop your understanding of and application of skills in an area specific to occupational therapy practice.

This module aims to develop your knowledge and skills in practising occupational therapy.

The interactive nature of the learning within this module will provide opportunities for you to apply your theoretical knowledge in developing occupational therapy skills and practice.

Within this module you will draw upon other module learning and the experiences you gain from your first exploratory placement which in order to develop your knowledge and understanding of the concepts of therapy that are shared inter-professionally.

Overview:
Continuing with the developmental approach of the programme, within this module you will draw upon knowledge, understanding and experiences gained from academic and placement experiences, to develop your occupational therapy practice skills. This module will provide opportunities for occupational therapists and service users to share their knowledge and experiences relating to aspects of occupational therapy. The interactive nature of this module is supported by a practice placement, simulation/practical skills training and small group work, tutorials and seminars which will form the basis of the learning methods within this module.

Lectures:
Delivery from the HSC team and where possible multidisciplinary health professionals and service users will contribute to the learning within this module in a negotiated teaching and learning style.

Independent: Drawing on other module experiences and placement experience you will explore some content through individual study.

Placement:
This module includes one practice-based learning experience in a relevant practice setting, preparation, and briefing workshops. Students will draw upon experiences and learning gained on placement in order to further develop their understanding and relevant core skills in occupational therapy for practice placement settings in line with assessment criteria.

Online:
Using a blended learning approach, you will be expected to engage and contribute to online group activities and use of online library facilities. A module Moodle page will support your learning on this module.

Tutorials:
There will be opportunities for formative assessment tutorials.

Skills:
Throughout this module, you will draw on and extend your current knowledge and transferrable skills, in order to progress your occupational therapy identity and skills.
