BA DKAS Stage and Production Management

Module description

Students will undertake further practical production roles in the areas of Stage and/or Production Management, or Technical Management during this module. Roles such as Stage Manager and Production Manager will enable the student to build on their previous experiences in Module Production Practice 4 and advance their managerial skills whilst learning through practice on a variety of different practical productions. Students may also have the opportunity to select to repeat another role within the stage management team in order to consolidate and embed their skills.

Module aims

The aims of this module are:



  • To enhance further and consolidate the student’s practical skills in Stage & Production Management

  • To develop the students financial and budgetary skills

  • To further develop the student's confidence in taking on production roles with more

  • To continue to enhance the student's Professionalism in the key skills areas of:

    • Communication, Reliability, Time Management

    • Team Work & management of a team where appropriate

    • Initiative and Self-Motivation

    • Commitment & Flexibility

    • Organisation



  • To enhance the student's Practical Skills in the key areas of:

    • Quality & finish of practical work

    • Attention to detail on practical work

    • Understanding different technology and materials

    • Management & organisation of the work environment

    • Management & understanding of costing & budgets

    • Understanding of Health & Safety



  • To consolidate the student's understanding of the importance of Reflection & critical thinking

  • To continue to develop the student's understanding of the importance of documentation & record keeping

Learning and teaching methods

Small group practical classes, seminars, tutorials, independent work and supervised productions. Students lean through practised based teaching on this module. Small group seminars happen at the beginning of the module to help the student reflect on their progression to date and enable them to develop further their managerial & financial skills during this module. Regular tutorials and production based meetings also support the teaching in this module.

Additional coursework information

Assessment is based on the ability to achieve the learning outcomes of the module related to the overall criteria contained in the Year Three Assessment Form and Grading Descriptors. Summative assessment is undertaken at the end of the term in which the module is taken and marks issued to students on the Assessment Form together with the written tutor comments. Students must pass both elements of the assessment to pass the module.

Exam format definitions

  • Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
  • In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
