BA DKAS Stage and Production Management
Students will undertake varied production roles during this module. Roles may include (Assistant Stage Manager, Deputy Stage Manager, Stage Manager, Assistant Production Manager, and Technical department assistants/supervisors. These roles will enable the student to develop their team working and managerial skills whilst learning through practice on practical productions.
Roles such as Stage Manager and Production Manager will enable the student to enhance their managerial skills whilst learning through practice on a variety of different practical productions. Students may also have the opportunity to select to repeat another role within the stage management team in order to consolidate and embed their skills.
The aims of this module are to:
Develop further and consolidate the students' practical skills in the areas of Stage and Production Management
To enhance the students' management skills further
Provide an opportunity for students to take production roles with more responsibility
Continue to develop and enhance the students professionalism in the key skills areas of:
Communication, reliability and time management;
Team work and management of a team where appropriate;
Initiative and self-motivation;
Commitment and flexibility;
Organisation.
Enhance the students practical skills in the key areas of:
Quality and finish of practical work;
Attention to detail on practical work;
Understanding different technology and materials;
Management and organisation of the work environment;
Management and understanding of costing and budgets;
Understanding of Health and Safety.
Consolidate the students' understanding of the importance of reflection and critical thinking
Continue to develop the students' understanding of the importance of documentation and record keeping.

Small group practical classes, seminars, tutorials, independent work and supervised productions. Students lean through practised based teaching on this module. Small group seminars happen at the beginning of the module to help the student reflect on their progression to date and enable them to develop further their managerial & financial skills during this module. Regular tutorials and production based meetings also support the teaching in this module.

Additional coursework information
Assessment is based on the ability to achieve the learning outcomes of the module related to the overall criteria contained in the Year Three Assessment Form and Grading Descriptors. Formative assessment and feedback is given throughout the module and summative assessment is undertaken at the end of the term in which the module is taken and marks issued to students on the Assessment Form together with written tutor comments.
Exam format definitions
- Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
- In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
- In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary,
for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
