Module description

By the final year of the course students are considered to be performers and actors.The work of skills classes in Terms One and Two of the final year focuses on students’ professional development. Classes will involve the preparation of your shows, audition pieces, preparation for the final Showcase performance and weekly classes to deal with any on-going problems and issues arising. Students continue to develop and practice warm-ups and preparation for rehearsal and performance. The final year work allows you to establish patterns and pathways  for creative well-being to follow throughout your working life.

Module aims

The aims of this module are to provide students with the means to



  • Select personal warm-ups appropriate to specific individual needs (physical, mental, and spiritual) and technical skills (voice, movement, music and singing)

  • Develop and maintain an aligned and energised body that is physically and technically able to meet the challenges of a range of performance styles

  • Apply learned skills techniques both as a performer and in self-created work

  • develop a varied repertoire of suitable audition songs that will enhance their employability in the profession.

Voice



  1. Technical integration of voice skills

Movement



  1. Ability to assume full responsibility for the development of own movement work

  5. Ability to present a fully-realised physical characterisation 


Music and Singing



  1. Technical ability – Quality of voice (clarity of sound, avoiding constriction)

  2. Pitch (maintaining intonation throughout the song)

  3. Harmony and Listening Skills (support, voice care, breath control)

  4. Communication (intelligibility and emotional contact)

Module information

Students work with tutors in group practical classes. Learning also takes place in workshops, tutorials, and whilst students are being coached for performance. Verbal feedback is given throughout class and rehearsal. Students receive termly formative assessments in written reports with tutors' comments Students will be expected to practice their voice, movement and music & singing skills in independent study.

Additional coursework information

Continuous assessment through observation of contribution to class work and application of skills to performances. Assessment is based on performance work and on the process of achieving public performance.

Voice and dance/ movement will be assessed based on all three terms. Music will be assessed based on terms one and two, when the bulk of the work is done.

Exam format definitions

  • Remote, open book: Your exam will take place remotely via an online learning platform. You may refer to any physical or electronic materials during the exam.
  • In-person, open book: Your exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer to any physical materials such as paper study notes or a textbook during the exam. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, open book (restricted): The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may refer only to specific physical materials such as a named textbook during the exam. Permitted materials will be specified by your department. Electronic devices may not be used in the exam.
  • In-person, closed book: The exam will take place on campus under invigilation. You may not refer to any physical materials or electronic devices during the exam. There may be times when a paper dictionary, for example, may be permitted in an otherwise closed book exam. Any exceptions will be specified by your department.
